DRIVER GENERAL INFORMATION

THE TYPE OF PEOPLE AND WHO WE HELP – PATIENT TRANSPORT SERVICE

Sir Roden & Lady Cutler Foundation drive the seriously or terminally ill, elderly or infirm, all over Sydney, including the Inner West area.  We take them, free of charge, to hospitals, medicals clinics, specialist appointments, physiotherapy or any health-related appointment when referred by a doctor or social worker, and occasionally to social groups when they are socially isolated.  Those who call on our service are either too ill or frail to travel on public transport or require support while undergoing their special treatment.  Many, especially the elderly, do not have family support to assist them during these times.

WHAT’S INVOLVED

In most situations you would pick up the passenger from their home, most wait outside for their lift, and you would then drop them off outside the doctors or hospital, most people would then make their own way to the rooms or department.

In a small number of cases you would be required to assist an elderly person with a walking frame and on a rare occasion lift a wheelchair into the vehicle.  If you are taking a passenger home after their appointment, again, they would wait outside for you to collect them.

The Charity only works Monday to Friday. The hours of work vary and could be the whole day from 8.00am to 4.00pm or it may be only a couple of hrs. We would like a Volunteer to commit to a certain day(s) per week. The Foundation provides a Vehicle for each Volunteer on the particular day they are assigned to Drive.

RECEIVING DONATIONS FROM PASSENGERS

Our organisation is of course a Charity and we rely on all donations to be able to provide our services.  Should a passenger offer a donation could you please pass this onto the office in the Donation envelope provided and fill out a receipt from the receipt book. (if requested).
